Festival International Nuits D’Afrique programming coordinator Sepopo Galley says before Club Ballatou owner Lamine Toure started the festival 36 years ago, Montreal didn’t have a showcase for its growing African immigrant culture. “In Montreal before, there was not a lot of representation of Black people or Afro-descendant people.”
