
Nigerian music icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti has made history by becoming the first African artist to receive a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, the Recording Academy announced in December. The Afrobeat pioneer, who died in 1997 at the age of 58, will become the first African to receive the honour, which has been awarded since 1963, marking a watershed moment for African music on the global stage.
