Ghanaian highlife musician Aka Blay has stirred conversation in the music space after stating that Nigerians are the true originators of the Afrobeat genre.
Speaking during a discussion on JoyPrime, the veteran guitarist and singer emphasized that Ghana’s trademark music remains highlife, not Afrobeat.
According to him, while Ghana has played a significant role in shaping modern African music, it is historically inaccurate to claim ownership of the Afrobeat genre.
